New Rules for Baryte Export (Grade-wise)
Revision in Export Policy of Baryte (Natural Barium Sulphate) – Notification No. 12 /2026-27
In accordance with the powers granted under Sections 3 and 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with relevant provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023 (as amended), the Central Government has revised the export policy applicable to Baryte (Natural Barium Sulphate).
Revised Export Policy (Grade-wise Classification)
The export conditions for baryte have been restructured based on quality (specific gravity), as outlined below:
| ITC (HS) Code | Description |
|---|---|
| 25111010 | Natural barium sulphate (baryte) – lumps |
| 25111020 | Natural barium sulphate (baryte) – powder |
| 25111090 | Natural barium sulphate (baryte) – others |
Grade-wise Treatment
- Grade A (Specific Gravity ≥ 4.2)
→ Now classified as Restricted (earlier: Free) - Grade B (Specific Gravity 4.10–4.20)
→ Now classified as Restricted (earlier: Free) - Grade CDW (Specific Gravity < 4.0)
→ Continues to be Free for export
Licensing Requirement
Exports of Grade A and Grade B baryte will require prior approval from the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), following the standard licensing procedure applicable to restricted items.
Key Impact
- Export of higher-grade baryte (Grade A & B) is now controlled through licensing
- Lower-grade baryte (Grade CDW) remains freely exportable
- Policy introduces quality-based regulation instead of a uniform export approach
