ELECTION 2021
Important announcement – Extending postal voting facility to those members who are entitled to vote at a Polling Booth in India but have gone abroad and unable to return to India due to Covid-19 restrictions.
As the members are aware that the next elections to the Council and Regional Councils of the Institute are scheduled to be held on 3rd and 4th December, 2021. In connection with these elections, it has been brought to the notice of the undersigned that certain members of the Institute who are eligible to vote in India at a polling booth but have gone abroad either for some personal work or to visit their relatives and are unable to return to India due to Covid-19 restrictions on or before the date of polling. As such these members will not be able to vote at the allotted polling booth. Therefore, such members be permitted to vote by post in the spirit of the provision of rule 28 of the Chartered
Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006. Keeping in view the practical difficulty faced by such members due to Covid-19 restrictions and with a view to enable them to exercise their franchise, it has been decided to allow such members to vote by post subject to compliance with, inter alia, the following conditions:-
- Such members shall be required to make an application in the form which will be hosted on the website of the Institute shortly seeking permission to vote by post atleast 60 days before the date of election and to comply with the conditions mentioned therein.
- The provisions of rule 28 read with Schedule 7 to the Chartered Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006 shall be applicable `mutatis mutandis’ for such category of voters.
- This facility shall not be applicable to those members who have gone abroad after 31st August, 2021.
