RBI Invites Applications for Faculty Research Scholarship Scheme 2026
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a scholarship opportunity for full-time faculty members engaged in teaching economics or finance at institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The program is designed to support short-term research in areas such as monetary economics, financial systems, banking, and real sector developments.
Key Objectives
The scheme aims to:
- Enhance awareness of RBI’s functions among academic professionals and students.
- Provide practical exposure to faculty members regarding the Bank’s operations and policy framework.
Number of Scholarships
Up to five scholars will be selected for the 2026 cycle. The RBI retains the discretion to modify this number.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be full-time faculty teaching economics and/or finance at UGC/AICTE-recognized institutions in India.
- Hold Indian citizenship.
- Be below 55 years of age.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously received this scholarship.
Application Timeline
- Last date to apply: May 15, 2026
- Program commencement: July 1, 2026
- Duration: Maximum of three months
Selection Process
Candidates will be shortlisted based on:
- A research proposal (maximum 1,000 words)
- Detailed curriculum vitae
Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview. Final selection will depend on overall suitability and alignment with RBI’s research priorities.
Research Theme
The final research topic will be determined by RBI, taking into account the proposals submitted by selected candidates.
Application Process
Applicants must submit:
- Completed application form
- Research proposal
- Detailed CV
- Official verification letter from their institution (with stamp)
All documents should be emailed in a single submission, with total attachment size not exceeding 10 MB. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Program Structure & Location
The scheme will be administered by the Department of Economic and Policy Research at RBI’s Central Office in Mumbai. Selected scholars will typically conduct research from their home institution, though occasional visits to RBI offices may be required.
Facilities & Financial Support
Selected candidates will receive:
- Monthly stipend of ₹50,000 (for up to three months)
- Honorarium of ₹2,00,000 upon successful completion and acceptance of the research
- Economy class airfare for one official visit (if required)
- Accommodation at RBI residential facilities during visits, subject to availability
Note: No housing allowance will be provided beyond the above provisions.
Responsibilities of Scholars
Selected participants are expected to:
- Submit a research paper/report contributing to RBI’s knowledge base
- Present their findings at an RBI seminar
- Seek prior approval before publishing the research externally
Guidelines for External Publication
If scholars wish to publish or present their research outside RBI:
- Prior written approval from RBI is mandatory
- The work should acknowledge participation under this scholarship scheme
- A disclaimer must clarify that the views expressed are personal and not those of RBI
- Any acknowledgment of RBI officials requires prior permission
- The project should not be described as an “RBI-funded project”
