Inter-Ministerial Group for Supply Chain Resilience

Inter-Ministerial Group for Supply Chain Resilience

Operationalization of Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) for Supply Chain Resilience

The Government of India has initiated a major step to safeguard India’s export ecosystem by operationalising an Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) on Supply Chain Resilience under the Department of Commerce.

This move comes in response to evolving global geopolitical developments and their impact on international trade and supply chains.

Why Has the IMG Been Constituted?

With increasing global uncertainties, disruptions in logistics, raw material availability, and cross-border trade have created challenges for exporters and import-dependent sectors.

To address these concerns, the Inter-Ministerial Group has been formed to:

  • Monitor global developments affecting supply chains
  • Assess sector-wise export performance and vulnerabilities
  • Identify critical import dependencies
  • Strengthen inter-ministerial coordination
  • Recommend suitable mitigation measures

The objective is to ensure minimal disruption to India’s trade flows and enhance long-term resilience.

Key Functions of the IMG

The newly operationalised IMG will:

1. Track Global Supply Chain Developments

Continuously monitor international trade dynamics and identify potential risk areas affecting Indian exports and imports.

2. Assess Export & Import Vulnerabilities

Evaluate sector-specific risks, particularly in industries heavily dependent on global supply networks.

3. Facilitate Inter-Departmental Coordination

Enable smooth collaboration among Ministries, Departments, and Export Promotion Councils (EPCs).

4. Recommend Mitigation Measures

Suggest timely policy interventions and corrective steps wherever necessary.

Real-Time Coordination Mechanism within DGFT

An internal coordination framework has also been established within the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to:

  • Enable real-time issue tracking
  • Improve inter-agency coordination
  • Ensure faster response to trade-related disruptions

This system is expected to provide quicker resolution of concerns raised by exporters and industry bodies.

How Can Trade & Industry Raise Concerns?

Trade bodies, exporters, and industry stakeholders facing supply chain disruptions may report specific issues for review and coordination.

Concerns can be submitted via email to: adg1-dgft@gov.in

Reported issues will be consolidated, examined, and addressed through appropriate inter-ministerial coordination.

What This Means for Exporters

This development signals a proactive approach by the Government to:

  • Protect India’s export competitiveness
  • Reduce supply chain risks
  • Strengthen policy responsiveness
  • Improve coordination across ministries

For exporters, this provides an institutional mechanism to escalate disruptions and seek timely intervention.
