SEBI Warns Investors Against Live Trading Strategies on Social Media
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has cautioned investors against individuals and entities offering live or real-time trading strategies through social media platforms.
SEBI has reiterated that market-price information cannot generally be shared live for educational purposes. Under its May 8, 2026 circular, market data may be used for investor education and awareness only with a 30-day delay, and educational content should not include predictions of future prices or investment advice/recommendations.
SEBI has observed that certain social-media accounts are conducting live trading sessions using real-time market information and presenting themselves as market experts. These sessions may include live chats through which unregistered investment advisory services are allegedly being offered.
According to SEBI, some individuals provide real-time commentary on market movements, suggest when to enter or exit trades, discuss trading strategies, identify positions to be taken in market indices, and display their own trading activity or expected market targets.
SEBI has advised investors to exercise caution and not rely on investment-related claims or recommendations made during such live trading sessions. Investors should make investment decisions carefully and deal only with SEBI-registered intermediaries.
The regulator has issued the caution to increase investor awareness and encourage vigilance while undertaking transactions in the securities market.
