DGFT introduces automated facility for Export Obligation extension

DGFT Introduces Automated Facility for Export Obligation Extension
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has introduced a system-driven facility for extending the Export Obligation (EO) period under Advance Authorisation (AA) and EPCG Authorisation cases placed before the PRC/EPCG Committee.
The initiative is aimed at simplifying procedures, reducing manual intervention and improving the ease of doing business for exporters.
How the New Facility Works
Under the revised process:
- The exporter submits a request for EO extension before the relevant PRC/EPCG Committee along with the Advance Authorisation or EPCG Authorisation details.
- If the Committee approves the extension, the approved extension will be taken forward automatically through the DGFT system.
- The exporter will receive an online communication requiring payment of the applicable EO extension fee against the PRC/EPCG Committee file.
- The prescribed fee can be paid through the DGFT portal, after which the exporter needs to submit the required response online.
- Once the payment and response are successfully submitted, the system will automatically generate the EO extension file, process the approval and issue the EO Extension Letter.
No Separate Application Required
A key benefit of the new mechanism is that exporters will no longer have to submit a fresh EO extension application to the concerned Regional Authority after the PRC/EPCG Committee has already approved the extension.
The revised EO expiry date will also be updated in the DGFT records relating to the concerned authorisation and communicated electronically to ICEGATE.
Benefits for Exporters
The automated mechanism is expected to:
- Reduce repetitive filing requirements.
- Minimise manual processing at Regional Authorities.
- Avoid duplicate applications after Committee approval.
- Speed up issuance of EO extension letters.
- Improve accuracy and transparency in authorisation records.
- Ensure the revised EO expiry date is reflected electronically.
Help and Support
DGFT has made a Help Manual available on its portal to assist exporters and other stakeholders in using the new functionality.
Stakeholders may also submit feedback or suggestions to dgftedi@nic.in.
For technical or procedural assistance, exporters can approach the DGFT Helpdesk through the available toll-free facility or raise a service ticket through the DGFT website under Services → DGFT Helpdesk Service.
In brief: Once the PRC/EPCG Committee approves an EO extension, exporters can now complete the remaining fee-payment and response formalities online without filing a separate EO extension application with the Regional Authority.
