GST Portal Introduces New Multistate Registration Facility

The GST Common Portal has introduced a new “Multistate Registration” facility to simplify the process of obtaining GST registrations in multiple States or Union Territories under the same PAN.

The facility, introduced on 1 October 2026, allows eligible taxpayers to initiate applications for registrations across multiple States/UTs through a single process. At present, the facility is available only to Normal Taxpayers.

How the Multistate Registration Facility Works

A new “Multistate Registration” option is available on the GST Portal homepage. Applicants can select the States or Union Territories in which they require GST registration. After making the selection, the portal generates a Master TRN (Temporary Reference Number).

The applicant can then use the Master TRN to submit the Common Registration Information (CRI). This includes information that is common across the selected registrations, such as:

  • Business and organisational details
  • Promoters/Partners
  • Authorised Signatory
  • Authorised Representative
  • Goods and Services details

The Master TRN must be submitted within 15 days.

State-wise Registration Applications

Once the Common Registration Information has been submitted, the GST Portal generates a separate individual TRN for each selected State/UT.

The common information submitted through the CRI is automatically carried forward to the respective State/UT applications. Applicants can review and edit this information, wherever required.

The applicant will then need to complete the information specific to each State/UT, including:

  • Principal Place of Business (PPoB)
  • Additional Place of Business (APoB)
  • State-specific details
  • Aadhaar authentication

What Does This Mean for Taxpayers?

The new facility eliminates the need to repeatedly enter the same basic information while applying for GST registrations in multiple States or Union Territories.

By consolidating the common information into a single initial submission and subsequently generating State-wise applications, the facility is expected to reduce repetitive data entry and make the GST registration process more convenient for businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions.

Taxpayers planning registrations in multiple States/UTs should ensure that the common information submitted through the Master TRN is accurate and complete before proceeding with the individual State/UT applications.
